The tourist pics can wait. In the meantime at Allison's Birthday party, someone was clicking away. It was a great party but our Jack is beginning a shy stage. An enlarged image of this shows him wondering should he dare look up at this strange lady or pretend she's not really there?

Driving through Romania continues ...
Although the hostess/bar tender spoke some English in the T of D (see next post), ordering supper became too difficult and we fell back on our standard "you cook something." It turned out to be a sumptuous meal of grilled chicken and grilled veg, etc.

We named this the Temple of Doom as it was the only place we could find to stay the night. The wooden building had 7 different levels within 4 stories, a la Faulty Towers. To descend to the lobby, we had to walk through a mezzanine of drinkers playing cards (a la TofD)

Cemeteries can be very interesting places. This part had stone monuments but many in Romania were wooden crosses, carved and painted.

Travel Tip: If you want charm, try a local hotel in a small town. If you want a clean place to lay your head and save your money for something else, try the Etap system. Sure it's cookie-cutter: always clean, always the same lay-out and breakfasts are mostly 5 euros extra but so worth it. You can get up, eat and go. Personally I liked the little hotels better but when you close your eyes at the end of the day, (and paid only 35 euros) it doesn't matter so much.

In Notre Dame in Paris, this medieval wall was erected by the monks who needed a quieter place to worship as there was so much business being conducted in the church.

The carvings on the door of Notre Dame in Paris were very graphic. As luck would have it, we were there on the only day there was a free tour in English. I was in history heaven!

Here she was - under glass, just in case someone wanted 15 minutes of fame.

(Sigh) My roof seems so plain now.
